Allergen Awareness Training

It is estimated that 15 million people in the United States have one or more food allergy.

It is important that your staff understands the dangers of food allergies and that food handlers must be aware of allergens when preparing allergen special orders. If there is any cross-contact in the kitchen, or transfer of allergens, a customer’s life could be put at risk.

Allergen Awareness training is perfect for anyone working in a foodservice establishment. The training will teach all staff how to avoid allergen contamination, and how to respond if a customer has an allergic reaction.

Each passing year sees more states bring in legislation that makes allergen training a legal requirement. Currently, 6 states require allergen training, including:

  • Illinois
  • Michigan
  • Rhode Island
  • Massachusetts
  • Montgomery County

If your state currently does not have any legal requirement, under federal law, FDA Food Code 2013, you still have a legal responsibility to serve food that is safe and do everything possible to protect the consumer. Protecting an allergy sufferer falls within this Food Code.
